Feature And Follow Friday!

Hey it's Friday!  And it's time for Feature & Follow Friday!

This is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, where the goal is to follow and be followed by as many people as possible.

This week's question: What's the craziest thing you'd be willing to do for an ARC you're dying to read?

I confess I've never read an ARC book before, but I would love to for some reads, such as Patrick Rothfuss' final installment to the Kingkiller Chronicles.
So what would I be willing to do for an advanced copy of the Kingkiller Chronicles?  Hmmm....well, I'm a bit of a timid sort, so I guess I wouldn't do anything too crazy or violent.  I think I would do something sneaky and clever, like befriending the author without them realizing that I secretly want an ARC book.

Here's my strategy: I would go and spend a few weeks in the author's hometown, under the guise of a vacation.  Next, I would go to where the author (let's call him Patrick) frequently hangs out, such as at a cafe or bookstore, and "accidently" bump into him.  I would find an opening to introduce myself, but not as a fan of his work (we don't want to scare him off).  No, I would pretend I didn't know he was an author, but instead we find common ground with a book we both really like (maybe I'll have a copy in my purse to use as an ice breaker).  I would use the few weeks to continue to meet and slowly befriend Patrick at his favorite place, to the point where he'd invite my husband and I over to his house to have dinner with his family (of course I'd have my husband with me, I wouldn't want to look like the stalker I'm turning out to be!).  I would then discover he's an author of a book I've read ("oh, you wrote The Name Of The Wind?  That book was wonderful!  What a strange coincidence!").  When I leave for home, we'll keep up contact via e-mail and phone calls, and I'll slowly convince him that I'm one of his best friends and confidants.  Eventually, because he knows I'm an avid reader, he'll send me an advanced copy of his next book!  Bwahaha!  It's brilliant I tell you!  Genius I say! Hahaha!

.....just in case I've freaked out any authors, I should probably note that this is something I feel I could do in my head, but I'd probably chicken out in reality and just be happy with a quick glimpse of the author.  It would be so cool to be friends with a famous author, though, I would truly love that!
