Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets (Harry Potter Book #2), by J.K. Rowling
★★★★★ and a ♥

Synopsis: The Dursleys were so mean and hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he’s packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.
And strike it does. For in Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls’ bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley’s younger sister, Ginny.
But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone—or something—starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects…Harry Potter himself?
In A Sentence: A book I’ve been reading since I was 12, and I never get tired of it!

My Thoughts: When it was realized that I loved Harry Potter, my friends and family pitched in and bought the next two books for my 12th birthday. Once that happened, I became a genuine Harry Potter fan. The first time I read this novel, I cheered aloud when I reached the climatic ending (Mom never lets me forget this).
To this day I still cheer for Harry and his friends as they overcome each obstacle. These stories are such a treasure, with something wonderful on every page. In this book, you meet loads of new people and creatures, from the delightfully intimidating Mrs. Weasley and her muggle-loving husband, Mr. Weasley, to the horribly terrifying, giant spiders that reside in the Forbidden Forest. My two personal favorites for this book are Gilderoy Lockhart and Dobby the house-elf. Lockhart is such an airheaded, egotistical character that he provides for a lot of the comic relief in this story. And Dobby, while his tactics may not necessarily be the best ones, tries so hard to help Harry that you end up loving him anyway.
I admit, when I only had the first 3 Harry Potter books, this was my least favorite book, but that has changed a little now that all 7 novels are out. This story is now among my top favorites in the series. As always I definitely recommend that you read (or re-read) this series. It’s always worth it! Enjoy!

  1. I read them each as they were released. Then one summer, I read all 7 in a row. That was awesome. You made me want to do it again...Not sure I can find the time, though!

  2. Oh God, the number of times I've re-read this series....I wish I had actually kept track because I must've read the first book over two dozen times. Every time a new book was coming out, I would re-read all the other books in order, sometimes more than once.
